HELLO!  I AM DARREN MACCA

My Schpiel

I bring over 10 years of experience as a creative director, product developer, and marketer across a wide spectrum of industries, with a focus on developing innovative, consumer-driven solutions. My career began at the iconic American brand, Timex, where I quickly rose into a leadership role. During my time there, I played a pivotal role in the company’s rebranding, overseeing everything from the visual identity to global marketing campaigns. I also led a comprehensive overhaul of packaging and retail design, reducing costs by 15% and streamlining product packaging by over 20%, all while improving brand presence across key consumer touchpoints. These efforts significantly elevated Timex’s market positioning and perceived value.

Following Timex, I joined Outward Hound, a pet product company, where I wore many hats and played a key role in launching and supporting the sales of several successful products. Most notably, I developed the SLOW-BOWL product line, which became a core product for the brand and revolutionized the conversation around pet health and wellness through mindful eating. By building a narrative around the health benefits of improved food consumption for pets, I was able to expand the product line and lay the groundwork for additional products in the health and wellness space. This strategic approach not only earned the company fantastic PR and high profits but also made it attractive to outside investors, who saw the potential in developing a holistic product category with long-term growth potential.

My experience extends beyond the pet industry. I have worked with a range of commercial clients nationwide, taught design at the University of Bridgeport, and engaged in sustainability-focused projects. One of my most notable undertakings has been ProtoHaus, one of the earliest tiny houses, which contributed to the birth of the tiny home movement. ProtoHaus has been featured in The New York Times and in the documentary TINY: A Story About Living Small.

Currently, I continue to develop and license new consumer products, with items available at major retailers such as Target, Bass Pro Shops, Home Depot, and Walmart. My broad experience in both large corporations and smaller entrepreneurial settings gives me the ability to lead diverse creative teams and execute cohesive brand strategies that drive growth and consumer engagement.

I am excited to leverage my extensive background in product innovation, brand storytelling, and creative leadership to establish a compelling, end-to-end creative vision for your company. I’m skilled at leading cross-functional teams to produce high-quality, performance-driven content across all mediums—from digital to retail—while fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment with overarching business goals.
